About Christina
I’m a 24-year-old graphic designer and social media specialist from Kansas City, Missouri. I grew up in a tiny mountain town in Wyoming before moving to the KC area in elementary school. I’ve spent my adult life doing a lot of different things. For awhile I was a tour guide, then I worked in a library, then I got a job at an animal shelter that really changed who I was as a person and my outlook on life. After that, I did data entry for the most boring year of my life, and then I got a job in a vet clinic for a little under a year before finally moving into web development and social media.
After having a very bad experience with a company that had no earthly idea what they were doing and no willingness to listen to the people who did, two of my coworkers and I decided to form our own company, The Social Lites. So now I’m doing web design and social media training for small- to medium-sized companies, which has been a fun and interesting journey so far.
I do a fair amount of volunteer work with a couple of local charities: Hope Care Center and Spay & Neuter Kansas City. I’ve been volunteering off and on since junior high, whenever I have the time to do it, and it’s something that’s become very important to me.
I’m very passionate about a lot of causes, but animal welfare is at the top of the list. I have eight pets, seven of which were adopted from shelters or rescues, and I love them all as if they were my children. (Naturally, this also means there are times when they bring me to the brink of nervous breakdown, but I wouldn’t trade them for the world. Which is good, because I doubt anyone would want them.) I am also a vegan and a lifelong supporter of animal rights.
I run and write for several other blogs, but ChristinaMaki.com is my personal blog, where I share my thoughts and observations on life, love, politics, news, religion, music, art, celebrity shenanigans, the state of the blogosphere, and anything else I feel like blathering about.
I’m not going to promise that I won’t swear sometimes or say anything controversial. I can only promise to be my genuine, honest, opinionated, and totally brilliant self.
I’ll probably overuse emoticons and occasionally be a bit of a bitch.
Take it or leave it.
